Off-campus learning
A Science degree can be studied either on-campus or in the off-campus mode.
There is also a flexibility of study modes allowing all students the opportunity to study some off-campus units.
How Science is offered in this mode
The Faculty of Science has extensive experience in providing flexible course delivery, working in conjunction with the University's Centre for Learning and Teaching Support.
- Specially structured learning materials are in both electronic and print-based forms
- Subject advisers trained and experienced in teaching by this mode and can be contacted by e-mail, telephone phone and fax
- In experimental science subjects, laboratory activities at first level may be completed using specially designed home experiment kits
- Intensive residential schools are run each semester over 3 to 5 days in laboratories with academic and technical staff. Students learn alongside other students from around Australia and overseas
- The standard completion time for a single degree is six years
- Exams are held at centres all over Australia.
When to consider off-campus flexibility in an on-campus science program
- To assist the balance between work and study commitments
- To take an elective unit that is not offered on-campus, or offered in a particular year
- As an option to help issues related to study load
