Fungal-related asthma exacerbations

The research will look at new methods of assessing fungal biomass in the home environment. Personal fungal exposure during sleep will be assessed in relation to fungal colonisation of the upper respiratory tract and its possible relationship to asthma exacerbation. A randomised controlled trial of fungal avoidance in allergic asthmatics will be carried out in collaboration with the Respiratory Epidemiology Group of the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine.
